Esoteric Strats launches Mafuriko, a community-powered flood early warning platform for Nairobi
A new public platform helps Nairobi residents understand flood risks, identify known hotspots, and share real-time information from their communities.

NAIROBI, KENYA — SEPTEMBER 2026 — Esoteric Strats has launched Mafuriko, a digital platform designed to help Nairobi residents understand flood risks, identify known flood hotspots, and share real-time information about flooding in their communities.
The platform comes as Nairobi prepares for the October–December 2026 rainy season, providing residents with a simple, accessible way to explore flood-prone locations and contribute information from the ground.
Mafuriko brings together publicly identified flood hotspots, road conditions, community reports, rainfall information, and mapped locations into one interactive platform.
Residents can search their neighbourhood, check mapped flood hotspots, and report flooding by submitting a location and a short description. Community reports are reviewed by the Mafuriko team before appearing on the public map.

Mafuriko currently maps locations publicly identified as flood hotspots by Nairobi County, the National Disaster Operations Centre, and the Kenya Red Cross, alongside roads that have previously experienced flooding. The platform states that 246 areas have been mapped by the county, while noting that the complete list has not yet been publicly released.
The platform is designed to evolve as more data becomes available. Esoteric Strats plans to expand its community reporting, data infrastructure, and alert capabilities, including SMS and WhatsApp alerts that can notify users about heavy rain and nearby flood hotspots.
